Kasubi Cushion Black Clay
Handcrafted by master bark cloth makers and a highly skilled weavers in Kampala, Uganda.
The Kasubi is modern, moody and deserves a place in the centre of your home; a true work of art. The black clay dyed barkcloth is the perfect modern contrast to the natural palm leaf which has been handwoven into a stunning plaited pattern by a small group of Artisans in Uganda.
Barkcloth is as sustainable as it comes and has been used throughout Uganda for hundreds of years. It's soft suede like texture makes it easy to see why it was once known as the cloth of kings! To produce the contrasting weave, a small group of highly skilled Artisans interlace metres of palm leaf in long, thin strips which are then stitched together to form intricate patterns.
The reverse is handwoven on countermarch floor looms using undyed cotton locally sourced throughout Uganda. Each cover features a side zipper and is crafted entirely by hand from natural materials.
The beauty of both handmade and natural materials means no two pieces will ever be identical. There may be small differences in pattern, colour, shape or texture to what you see in the photo.
